![]() Start by building a house, then expand your one-person shack into an entire village, complete with a farm and horse stable. Once the necessities have been satisfied, the world is ready to be explored, and no two players’ experiences are ever the same, as the map is populated by completely randomised landmarks: villages, dungeons, mountain caves, and fortresses.Ĭompared to the game itself, Minecraft LEGO sets are the next best way to immerse yourself in this sandbox world. Most sensible adventurers focus on gathering readily available materials, with which they can begin constructing a basic house to protect themselves from the mobs that roam the wilderness during the night. Starting their first night with nothing but a basic skin (usually that of Steve, the default mascot for the franchise), players are presented with a slew of choices. Explore the LEGO Minecraft WorldĪnyone who is familiar with Minecraft knows that it is a game of near-infinite possibilities. Known as Micro Worlds, they featured a removable surface that, when exposed, would reveal caves laden with ores, minecart tracks, and rivers. To guarantee that fans could immediately recognise the franchise, each set - or rather, each crafting box - included unique locations, objects, and characters (in the form of Minifigures), all of which resembled their in-game counterparts. The first LEGO Minecraft sets flooded the toy market in 2012, allowing players to continue their block-building journey in the real world. With the support of the gaming community, Mojang (headed by Carl Manneh) used the LEGO Ideas program to convince the brand to invest in these new toys. The two sharing a similar aesthetic, it seemed inevitable that Mojang Studios and The LEGO Group would combine their two ideas, and this presumption was soon revealed to be accurate. The simplistic visuals lend themselves to the addition of user-created mods, including one that transforms the environment into an interactive space composed of LEGO bricks. This success can be attributed to its unique concept, which gives players the freedom to explore a procedurally generated sandbox environment presented in the shape of blocks. The vanilla iteration of the game was debuted in 2009, and since this pivotal moment, it has gained the title of best-selling video game in history. What 3.Conceptualised by Swedish programmer Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, Minecraft is best known as being a massively popular video game by developer Mojang Studios.A cool, unofficial LEGO build of one chunk.I just hope they make an arctic biome one, or at least a taiga one. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m starting to get excited at the prospect of building my first LEGO set in upwards of a decade. Given Minecraft‘s rabidly devoted fanbase, it’s only a matter of time before we reach 10,000, and given Mojang’s support and the marketing power of the Minecraft name, it’s only a matter of time before LEGO accepts the idea. Mojang has already said they’ll donate their 1% to charity because they’re cool like that, and also fairly rich as it is.Īt the moment, the idea has about 600 or so supporters, but it rolled out fairly recently, so that number is only going to go up. If the idea is accepted, LEGO will put out the set and give the creator a 1% royalty on sales. Through the CUUSOO system, basically anybody can get LEGO to consider producing a set if they can get 10,000 people to support the idea. Mojang is working with LEGO through the CUUSOO system to get several different models made and hopefully open the door to more Minecraft LEGOs down the road. Now, it seems like Minecraft might have a chance to retcon its history, so to speak, and get its own, official LEGO playsets. However, none of them took off the way Minecraft did. Granted, there have been plenty of other attempts at creating cyber-LEGOs, all of which were questionably successful. Minecraft is basically cyber- LEGOs in spirit.
